Tutorial for newbies - How to use Imageshack to post your images?

I am posting this tutorial in response to a Masala Senior Member's request.

Many of the MBites post the images as attachments. I don't advocate that method as it demands the MB resources directly. Instead one can try using the imageshack to post the images. The URL is

http://www.imageshack.us

It is a free site and to use its feature, you don't even have to register or provide your email adress. All you need is to specify the file you want to upload and it gives you the links which you can copy and paste in MB. Sounds very cool, isn't it?

1. Now, when you visit the site you will get a screen something like this.



2. Click on the browse button, select the image file you want to upload and click on "host it!" button. You can upload only jpeg, jpg, png, gif, bmp, tif, tiff and swf files with a maximum size of 1024 kb.

3. When your image gets uploaded you will see a screen similar to this.



Note: It is not necessary that the screen that you get when you upload the image should look the same. Imageshack uses different layouts at random in order to prevent any automated image uploads.

4. You will see that there are different kinds of links provided from where you can copy and paste in your post. But the tricky thing is "Which among those links you will choose?"

Imageshack provides all those links in order to serve the diversity of the requirements of its users as well as to suit different versions of vB code depending on the message board. You will see the following 8 types of links.

i) Thumbnail for Websites

5. If you observe carefully, you will see that for forums there are two types of links.
forums (1) Where the url is posted in between the [IMG] tags (ii, iv)
forums (2) Where the url is assigned to the tag as [IMG=url] (iii, v)

Masala Board comes under forums (1).

6. So the links that we need are ii, iv, vii and viii

7. If you want to add a thumbnail in your post use (ii).

Output:

The thumbnail will be smaller in size and scaled to the size of the original image.
When the user clicks on the thumbnail, it opens the image separately (just the way the attachments work).

8. If you want to post the image in its normal size (full size) use (iv).

9. If you want to post images as links then use (vii) or (viii).

I prefer (viii). You will need this when you are posting any nude images.

If you actually register with imageshack you will be able to reuse your links as all your uploads will be archived.

Remember, the popularity of your thread not only depends on the quality of your images but also on how you post them.
So choose wisely.
